Sometimes. In most cases, the expert only determines the extent, cause, and circumstances of the damage, and the insurer assesses coverage based on the report. In some cases, the expert is appointed as a ‘loss-adjuster’ who can confirm coverage. It will be indicated beforehand in which capacity the expert is acting.
